NCVC

Datasets from the National Center for Vegetation Cover and Combating Desertification (NCVC). NCVC is one of the five Saudi Environment Centers of Excellence. NCVC is organized in departments and units and the center mandate covers seven strategic objectives and five priority programs. NCVC vision is a flourishing and diverse vegetation cover that promotes environmental sustainability and contributes to quality of life. NCVC aims to achieve this by providing capabilities, implementing programs, and strengthening partnerships for the development and sustainability of the vegetation cover and combating desertification.

NCVC priority programs cover: (i) Development of environment regulation, standards, and guidelines; (ii) Enhancing rangelands planning and management; (iii) Combating desertification; and (v) Developing and managing national forests.

NCVC strategic objectives include: (i) Develop and expand the vegetation cover and protect its diversity and implement desertification monitoring and mitigation programs and treaties; (ii) Sustainably manage forests and mitigate the effects of anthropogenic and natural threats; (iii) Regulate and sustainably manage rangelands, preserve plant diversity and rehabilitate degraded rangelands; (iv) Build knowledge base, and set adequate incentives to support innovation and use of modern techniques in the field of vegetation cover and combatting desertification; (v) Strengthen partnerships with local communities and the private sector to support the development of vegetation cover and associated economic activities; (vi) Sustainably manage and develop the infrastructure and conserve natural ecosystems of national parks; and (vii) Build human and technical capabilities in the field of vegetation cover and combatting desertification.

Although NCVC implements its programs along specific departments, its datasets are integrated to provide efficient solutions across its programs.
